Aaron Burdett: I've always loved traditional Old Time and Bluegrass and the concept of neo-traditional re-visitations and interpretations of those styles. Once I started singing with the Rangers I saw an opportunity to try to write some songs for the band that brought in the traditional sounds and structures I grew up hearing here in western North Carolina. At the same time, we're all adjusting both new and old band harmonies to accommodate my range and we're finding a new balance between all the singers in the group. So arranging this song has been a fun exercise for us. “Above My Burdens” is the first of what I hope will be many of this kind of tune I can bring to the table for the band in the future.
